Piglets Adventure Farm, York: A Neurodivergent Family’s Full Review

Towthorpe Grange, Towthorpe Moor Lane, York YO32 9ST

We have visited a lot of farm parks over the years, and Piglets Adventure Farm near York has genuinely earned a place among our favourites. As a neurodivergent family of four — Bodhi Honey (7, Autism PDA) and River Ace (4, ASD/ADHD assessment pathway — we need places that offer a good mix of stimulation and space, with natural quiet corners woven in. Piglets delivers on all of it.

The Beach

The centrepiece of Piglets is the Beach area, and it is brilliant. River spent most of the morning at the Water Play section, splashing through rock pools and pumping water through streams, channels, and dams. The Archimedes Screw had Bodhi completely captivated — she is a natural engineer, and watching water spiral upward against gravity is exactly the kind of fascinating, repeatable sensory experience she loves. She went back to it three times.

The Giant Sandpit is enormous, and River was absolutely covered within about four minutes. Bring a change of clothes — this is not a suggestion, it is a requirement. The Cliffside Slide is fast and brilliant, the Dino Dig Zone kept both children excavating for longer than we expected, and the Boulder Climbing area has net hammocks tucked into it that are worth a special mention. We spotted Bodhi retreating to one of the hammocks mid-morning for a few quiet minutes of regulation — that kind of naturally integrated calm space, without it being signposted as a “quiet area,” makes a real difference for families like ours.

The Activities

Beyond the Beach, there is a huge amount to do across the site. The Ride-on Tractors were a massive hit with River — this is becoming a theme, following on from Bluebell Dairy and Matlock Farm Park. The Barrel Train Ride was a highlight for both children (and the adults), and the Bouncing Pillows were enormous fun. Bring spare socks — you will need them, and there are signs reminding you, but we are reminding you again because it genuinely matters.

The Go Kart Track and the Olym-pigs Obstacle Course kept everyone moving, the Crazy Farm Golf produced some genuinely terrible golf and a lot of laughter, and the Fairy Tale Trail and Truffles Barn — reached via a wonderfully wobbly bridge — gave the day a lovely magical quality that Bodhi in particular adored. She is at the age where she is starting to grow out of some things, but the Fairy Tale Trail held her completely.

We took the Tractor Trailer Ride to the Indoor Playbaaarn and The Trough Café, which was a lovely way to travel between areas of the site and gave everyone a chance to sit

down and decompress. The indoor play frame and big sandpit inside the Playbaaarn are excellent for when you need to be out of the weather.

The Animals

The animal experiences at Piglets are genuinely special, and they are the part of the day that both children talk about most when they look back on it. We visited the Piglets Maternity Ward to see the expectant mums and newborn piglets — tiny, pink, and completely irresistible. The Animal Baaarn had goats, rabbits, and piggies to meet up close, and the Farmyard Trail took us through the paddocks to find ponies, donkeys, and more.

The absolute highlight was the Lambing and Bottle Feeding session. We were given a ticket for a timed slot, and both children got to help feed the lambs. It was one of those quietly magical moments — no screens, no noise, just a small child holding a bottle for a tiny lamb that is pulling at it with everything it has got. Both children were completely absorbed. We will be talking about it for years.

The Bubble Show

We caught the 12pm Bubble Show, which is a lovely spectacle — bubbles filling the air in a genuinely mesmerising display. After about ten minutes, Bodhi started to feel a little overwhelmed by the noise and the crowd, so we moved to the back of the space where it was quieter. River enjoyed it for a little longer before we slipped out before the end. This is just how it goes sometimes, and the important thing is that Piglets handled it perfectly — there was no pressure, no awkwardness, just space to do what worked for us.

Food

We grabbed sausage rolls and coffee from the Piggy Pizza Parlour, which was exactly what we needed mid-morning. The Trough Café at the Indoor Playbaaarn serves hot and cold drinks and ice cream — obviously essential. Both were reasonably priced and the quality was good.

Accessibility

Disabled visitors pay the standard entry fee and are entitled to one FREE accompanying carer ticket. Bring proof of disability — a recent DLA or PIP letter, Blue Badge with photo ID, or other accepted documentation. Our Verdict

Piglets Adventure Farm is one of the most genuinely enjoyable farm parks we have visited, and one of the most naturally neurodivergent-friendly. The variety of activities, the animal encounters, the space, and the natural quiet corners make it work brilliantly for families like ours. The Lambing and Bottle Feeding session alone is worth the trip. We will absolutely be going back.
