Introduction
When we first bought our Coachman Acadia 830, joining the Caravan and Motorhome Club felt like a natural next step — but we genuinely wondered whether the membership fee would pay for itself. Three years in, we can answer that question with confidence.
The short answer is yes — but the value depends entirely on how you use it. Here is our honest breakdown of everything the Club offers and what we actually get out of it as a family of four.
What Does Membership Cost?
Membership costs £69 per year by Direct Debit or £79 if you pay by card. For a family that goes away six or more times a year, this pays for itself very quickly.
The Club has over one million members and more than 2,700 sites across the UK and Europe, so the network alone is worth the entry price for regular travellers.
The Key Benefits
Access to over 2,700 sites including 160+ Club-owned campsites and thousands of Certificated Locations (CLs) — small, often stunning private sites with a maximum of five pitches.
The Great Savings Guide is a physical booklet sent to every member with hundreds of discounts on days out, attractions, and services. We have saved well over the cost of membership from this guide alone in a single trip.
Red Pennant Overseas Travel Service gives you emergency assistance abroad — roadside recovery, medical repatriation, and legal support. Essential if you tour in Europe.
MAYDAY UK Breakdown Cover is available as an add-on and covers you on UK roads with your caravan in tow — something standard breakdown policies often exclude.
The Club magazine, technical helpline, and online community are genuinely useful resources, especially when you are new to caravanning and have questions about towing, setup, or maintenance.
Our Honest Verdict
For us, the membership pays for itself every single trip. The CL network alone has given us some of our best pitches — quiet, beautiful, and completely different from a large commercial site. The Great Savings Guide has saved us money on days out we were planning anyway.
If you are going away more than three or four times a year, we would say membership is essential rather than optional. If you are only going once a year, it is still worth it for the peace of mind the insurance products and breakdown cover provide.
