Sometimes the best days out are the ones closest to home. Bluebell Dairy Farm is only half an hour from us, and on the day we visited, it delivered one of the best family days we have had all year. For a neurodivergent family of four — Bodhi Honey (7) and River Ace (4) — it was absolutely perfect.

Why It Works for Neurodivergent Families

The first thing that struck us was the space. There is so much room here, both indoors and outdoors, which means there is always somewhere to go if someone needs a moment to decompress. There is no bottleneck, no queuing for a single attraction, no sense of being hemmed in. For families like ours, that matters enormously.

Free parking is a bonus that we always appreciate — no scrambling for change before the day has even started.

The Animals

Bluebell Dairy Farm is genuinely brilliant for animal encounters. We fed and cuddled the alpacas, who were impossibly fluffy and full of personality — the staff were brilliant at telling us about each one’s individual character, which Bodhi Honey loved. The goats were absolutely hilarious, doing what goats do best and making everyone laugh. Bodhi fell completely in love with the Highland cows, which have a calm, gentle presence that she found very soothing. And the tiny lambs — well, there is no child on earth who can resist a tiny lamb.

River’s absolute highlight was Tractor School, where he got to drive a tractor himself. The look on his face was priceless. We have talked about it every day since.

The Activities

The bouncy pillow was a massive hit — a huge outdoor inflatable that both kids threw themselves onto with total abandon. One important tip: bring spare socks. You will need them.

The Moo Meadow is a large open space that is fantastic for burning off energy, and the farmer role-play activities — brushing cows, shearing sheep, and all the rest — kept the

children completely absorbed. Bodhi and River were both fully engaged in a way that does not always happen at busier, louder attractions.

The indoor play area is well-designed too, with an exciting play frame and a big sandpit that River could have stayed in all day.

Food and Drink

The food and drink here is genuinely good and reasonably priced — always a relief when you are trying to feed a family without spending a fortune. The coffees were excellent. And the ice cream — made with milk from their own cows on the farm — is outstanding. We had multiple rounds. No regrets.

Our Verdict

Bluebell Dairy Farm is the kind of place that does not try too hard. It is just a brilliant, well-run farm with great animals, plenty of space, and activities that children genuinely love. For a half-day or full-day out close to home, it is hard to beat. We will absolutely be going back.
